About Lesson
- Regular wage
- Tips or monetary gifts from tourists
In addition to these, tour guides can also earn from commissions. Commissions are a certain percentage of the cost of goods sold to tourists. For instance, some restaurants and souvenir shops grant commissions to tour guides who bring tourists to their stores. Giving commissions is an incentive that shop owners use to encourage tour guides to bring them business from tourism. Nevertheless, tour guides must exercise ethical judgement and moderation when recommending shops to tourists. Tour guides must not be too pushy. Recommendations should be made to provide choices to tourists and not to tighten the tourists’ ability to make their own decisions.
