The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines research as “careful study and investigation for the purpose of discovering and explaining new knowledge.” In basic education, we learned that the process of careful and systematic study sometimes referred to as scientific method, starts by asking a question and coming up with research objectives before gathering facts and evidence.
The same goes for tour guides when they are doing research to prepare for their tour. The first step is to define what the tour guide would like to find out or share with the tourist before going through the aforementioned sources of information. The tour guide must also know the types of tourist who will join the tour. As noted by the Canadian Tourism Commission the products must meet the demand, which the type of information gathered and how the information is arranged should match the needs of the tourists. Lastly, concluding remarks must also be included.
This format can be used in arranging the information:
- Introduction of the tour guide
- General description of the country and the city
- Specific places to be visited during the tour
- Description of the places, noting interesting facts
- Concluding remarks
