Tour Guiding 101
About Lesson
  • The tour guide must always be leading the group in front, instead of walking with a select few. This prevents other tourist from feeling left out.
  • The guide must note the physical capacity of the members of the group vis-a-vis pacing. Leisurely guiding will help slow walkers to catch up without boring the fast ones.
  • The tour guide must take advantage of the environment, including buildings and symbols, in creating an impact with his/her commentary. For example, the tour guide can step on or touch a structure in a walking tour, if allowed, to highlight an interesting fact about that particular structure.
  • The tour guide must use the appropriate volume and tone when speaking, especially for outdoor walking tours where communications barriers abound in the environment. The guide can also boost this by delivering the commentary in front of a building, on a rock, or a few steps higher than the group, while the group is arranged in a semi-circle formation.
  • The tour guide must question asked before answering them for the benefit of the group. This also avoids the needs to repeat himself/herself. However, question-and-answer is best done when the group is not walking.

During the walking tour are not popular in the Philippines .This may be due to the humid climate.
